From around the age of 11 I was fascinated by the Krays, I’m sure it began with seeing the Spandau Ballet starring biopic on Channel 4 one night. Everything about them fascinated me, the fact they were twins, the way they had so much power and were feared by so many people, how they moved like celebrities mixing with Hollywood stars, musicians, and sportsmen, and the fact they did what they did while being gay just seemed crazy to me. I built up a nice library while I read as many books as I could find on them, it was the only reading I ever did. And this was before I ever found out my Great-Uncle moved in the same circles as them and shared many mutual friends. When he told me he had also known George Cornell, the man Ronnie Kray had shot in the head at The Blind Beggar pub, my brain nearly exploded.
